"My Weezer History" or "How I Became a Weezer Fan Without Really Trying"
By beazereatworld
I was only 8 years old when I first heard of Weezer. I was so excited because I had just gotten my first computer. One of the companion CDs -- you know, the ones that come along with the purchase of a computer -- contained a variety of audio-visual files, including a movie trailer for Rob Roy and several animation clips. But the file that really caught my eye was the one entitled "Weezer." "Huh? What's a Weezer?" I asked myself. Being the typical inquisitive fourth-grader I was, I opened up the file. I remember being really confused. The bottom of the Windows Media Player read "Music Video," yet what I was watching appeared to be an episode of the TV sitcom "Happy Days." I later found out that it was the Spike Jonze-directed "Buddy Holly" music video. What happened after that? Honestly? I forgot about them. I got caught up with other musicians: No Doubt, Alanis Morissette, Beastie Boys. Seven years later, I got an issue of the fateful magazine that would change everything, Request (Sam Goodys membership mag). Who was on the cover? Weezer. The light bulb sparked in my head, and I went over that same companion disc that contained the "Buddy Holly" video in it. I remembered Weezer. So, I had to wonder, "What happened to these guys during the past five years?" To answer this question, I did the one thing I'm skilled at: researching. And the rest, as they say, is history.
---> "I can't help but think that every time I hear the name 'Weezer,' I think of old guys going [gasping for breath]."
